THE ALKALINE/ACID WAY OF LIFE

SEPTEMBER 29, 2018

Many Naturopathic healing methods are based upon the food principle of eating an 80/20 diet. 80% coming from alkaline forming foods and 20% coming from acid forming foods.

All foods leave an ash residue after metabolism which is either alkaline or acid, depending on the mineral composition of foods and the way in which individuals digest them. Individual stress patterns, ability to process life‘s ups and downs, and emotional stability all impact the digestive system, and influence its actions.

Blood type O may have more digestive capacity than other blood types.

Stress, negative thoughts and emotions, poor food combinations, acid-forming foods and drinks, and insufficient digestive capacity can produce acidic residues.

Good food combinations, chewing food well, relaxation, soothing light massage, nonstressful exercise, deep breathing, meditation, prayer, grounding, moonlight, and unconditional love, are all alkalizing.

The human body needs an alkaline environment to continue proper functioning of vital organs. Acidic blood will draw alkaline minerals from the bones to keep itself in a slightly alkaline balance, causing osteoporosis, if long-term acidity is present. Once the alkaline reserves in the body are depleted by excess acid-forming foods and mental states, and acidity is reached, the body breaks down. Alkaline reserves (calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, iron and manganese) are created by alkaline forming foods.

The opposite side to this theory is if the body becomes too alkaline, pointing to the emotional feeling of being “stuck”. The liver and the intestines become stagnant and the body is unable to rid itself of waste.

Toxicity and disease can dwell in both an overly-acid or overly-alkaline environment.

This is why the majority of the modalities I use in my practice revolve around each individual’s digestive system and how it is processing. No cookie-cutter approach here.
